Thank you for using RateOurClub! This Privacy Policy dicloses what information is collected from you when visiting our website, the extent to which your data is used, and our legal compliance.

1. Information We Collect from You

Personal Information:

You can use RateOurClub in two ways: either by signing in with your email or continuing as a guest. If you choose to sign in with your email, we collect this information solely for identity verification and to prevent automated submissions when posting reviews. This verification helps ensure the authenticity of reviews and enhances the overall user experience. If you choose to continue as a guest, we do not collect any personally identifiable information from you.

User-Generated Content:

When you submit reviews or rate clubs, you are providing us with user-generated content. By submitting reviews, you grant us permission to serve this content on our website for displaying club information and reviews.

Review Anonymity:

All reviews are displayed anonymously to other users of RateOurClub. We will never publicly identify users with their reviews or share any identifying information with third parties (including universities or clubs) except where required by law. We offer two levels of access:

• Standard Anonymity (Email Sign-in): When you submit reviews using email sign-in, our system administrators and database managers can internally associate these reviews with the email addresses used to submit them. This capability is strictly limited to site administration purposes such as preventing spam, addressing policy violations, responding to legal requests, and troubleshooting.
  
  If you wish to completely remove all of your information from our system, please contact us at [email protected]. For more information, please see section 7 below.
• Complete Anonymity (Guest Mode): When you submit reviews as a guest, no personally identifiable information is collected or stored. System administrators and database managers will not be able to determine who submitted these reviews.
  
  As such, users who opt to review as a guest opt out from the ability to delete their reviews. Please see section 7 below.

2. Analytics

RateOurClub does not display advertisements of any kind. As a non-commercial project, we have no interest in monetization through any means.

We use Google Analytics to collect standard internet traffic information and details of visitor behavior patterns. The primary purpose of this information is to improve our website and user experience. This information does not infer any private information about you that is not otherwise already disclosed by you.

Any user who first enters the platform will be prompted to provide consent for the use of cookies and other tracking technologies. By providing consent, you agree to the collection that is described in this privacy policy. If you do not explicitly provide consent, Google Analytics will not be recorded to any extent.

Google Analytics stores information about:

• Pages you visit on RateOurClub
• How long you spend on each page
• How you arrived at our site
• What you click on while visiting our site
• Your general location (city/country level, not precise location)
• The device and browser you use to view our site

Our system also collects basic user information such as IP address, region, operating system, and browser type through Cloudflare and Google Analytics. This information is used to create a smooth and secure experience by ensuring consistent access and functionality across devices. Your information is stored on Cloudflare and Google Analytics and is not distributed to any other third parties except as described in this policy.

3. Use of Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide our services accurately
• Display user-generated content
• Monitor website performance and internet traffic anomalies

We do not sell, trade, or transfer your personal information to third parties.

Any third-party service providers (e.g. Cloudflare and Google) are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information. Any concerns regarding these third-party service providers should be directed to their respective privacy policies.

4. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security protocols to protect your data. All communication between users and our service is encrypted through TLS. Any requests made below TLSv1.1 are automatically rejected. All passwords are hashed and are inaccessible, even by our system administrators. Guest access is protected to the same extent as standard user access where need be.

5. Children's Privacy

Our website is not directed at individuals under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at [email protected]. If we become aware that we have unknowingly collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take immediate steps to delete that information.

6. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Any significant changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage users to review this policy regularly.

7. Legal Compliance/Your Rights

We comply with applicable privacy laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Residents of these jurisdictions may have specific rights regarding their personal data, including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of their information. Appropriate action will be taken within 72 hours of receipt of your request, which includes verifying your identity and ensuring compliance with the law.

As such, guest reviews automatically forfeit these privileges, namely the right to delete or modify submitted reviews. While guests also have rights under GDPR and CCPA, completely anonymous reviews are ineligible due to recognized exceptions outlined in the respective laws.
